ENDODONTIC RETREATMENT

Endodontist in Louisville, KY

After a tooth has had root canal therapy and proper care, the treated tooth will last as long as your other natural teeth. However, pain can occur in a tooth that has received root canal therapy months or years after the initial treatment. When pain occurs, endodontic retreatment may be needed.

The following steps take place during endodontic retreatment:

  • First, Dr. Scott Norton will reopen your tooth to gain access to the root canal filling material. This material will be removed to allow access to the root canal.
  • Next, Dr. Scott Norton will clean your root canals and carefully examine the inside of the tooth.
  • After cleaning the tooth, he will fill the canals and place a temporary filling in the tooth.
  • A follow-up appoint will be scheduled to have a new restoration placed on the tooth with the patient’s general dentist.
